on a couch covered in coffee stains.
I can hear my television from here,
daily news, another car crash.
Water is boiling in the kitchen,
my brother is playing his Nintendo DS,
my sister is painting her nails,
my mother is on the phone.
It’s freezing outside,
and still, the air conditioner is on,
and it chills me to the bone.

I am right here,
I feel so far from home.
